Happy December everyone!
To get into the spirit of the holidays we decided to head downtown on Saturday for the downtown light up event. A bunch of local businesses had special promotions on for the event and our first stop was Okanagan Spirits to browse around and sample some boozy hot chocolate.
Naturally Andrea and I were sidetracked by the tasting bar where we decided to do a little midday spirit tasting. We started with Sea Buckthorn Liqueur, a tasty honey and citrusy liqueur with alleged anti-oxidant properties.
We followed that up with Aquavitus, a savoury Scandinavian vodka-esque spirit.
Then we finished up with some absinthe. Which, apparently, does not have hallucinogenic effects if distilled properly. It also creates a gorg iridescent colour when mixed with water.
Next we took a quick stroll by the yacht club.
Then popped into Tree Brewing and sampled some red lager.
After playing a few rounds of trivial pursuit, and realizing that we know absolutely nothing, we admitted defeat and headed next door to Cactus Club to drown our sorrows in cocktails and snacks.
Red wine sangria for me, pretending it’s still Summer.
A 6ix Manhattan for Andrea, made with Drake’s very own whiskey BY THE WAY.. #Canada.
And beers for the boys.
Then it was time for the food.
Beef Carpaccio with a meatball on the side…just in case.
Delicious truffle & parmesan fries.
And sweet and spicy chili chicken.
By the time we finished up at Cactus it was already dark outside and absolutely freezing, so we opted to skip waiting around for the actual tree lightup and headed home for an early night.
There was only one thing on the agenda for Sunday – finding the perfect Christmas tree. So Alex and I bundled up and headed out to a nearby tree farm.
I thought I would be able to get away with wearing my Hunters due to the lack of snow, but I was just so very wrong.
Fortunately, they had a nice big fire and hot apple ciders for us to warm up with while we waited for them to chop our tree and get it ready to go.
Our little tree, waiting to be all packaged up and taken home.
Upon arriving home a celebratory glass of port was in order (while waiting for the feeling to return to my toes).
And now it’s time to turn on the Christmas music and decorate!
